Women looking for unique clothing items and accessories can find them at the new Boutique 66.

Owner Jill Johnston opened the store on April 4. She described the style of her merchandise as "ladies bling."

Johnston and her husband have lived in Williams for about two years. After owning her own business for several years, Johnston worked at the Grand Canyon Railway for about nine months. When her dad passed away suddenly, Johnston decided to make a career change.

"I just decided, 'You know what? I'm going to get back to doing what I do best, and that's my own thing,'" she said. "So I kind of took a look around the town and decided that I kind of wanted to do something different, not your typical souvenir (shop). So we just decided to bring some bling into town and here we are."

Boutique 66 carries items such as jeans, purses, jewelry, hats, aprons, flip flops and hair bows. About 30 percent of the store's inventory is made by individuals.

"Most of these people are craft show type people," Johnston said. "We offered them kind of a retail tourist outlet. And then the rest of it is retail that we purchase on our own."

Johnston said she is selective about the items she has in the store.

"We don't carry too many of one thing, so it's very much a boutique," she said. "Most of the jewelry you will not buy two of. There's not two of them in here, there's only one of a kind."

Johnston said she is having fun running the boutique and that business has been good in the first few weeks.

"Not only do we get the local support but the tourists have accepted it very well," she said.

Boutique 66 is at 238 W. Route 66 and is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. More information is available at (480) 241-6958.
