After several requests from Williams residents, the Prisoner of War (POW) and Missing in Action (MIA) flag is now flying over the Williams Own Veterans Memorial. The POW/MIA flag flies under the American flag and is no larger than "Old Glory," in accordance with U.S. flag protocol. Grand Canyon American Legion John Ivens Post 42 donated the POW/MIA flag, and the Williams Matthew James Broehm Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 12128 hoisted the flag. During his Warrior Walk from South Carolina to California to support the Wounded Warrior Program, Marine Corps veteran Josh Lydell stopped in Williams and helped raise the POW/MIA flag at the memorial. The VFW post welcomed Lydell and showed its support for his fundraising project for veterans. Below from left: VFW member Rick Pederson, Josh Lydell and VFW Commander Rodger Ely gather at the memorial after raising the POW/MIA flag.
