Williams-Grand Canyon News

The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber Board recently put on the first monthly board meeting of 2014. The board reviewed committee assignments and set priorities for the coming year. Members assigned committee chairs and asked chairs to update the lists of all committee members.

Board members agreed that a focus for the coming year will be a strong Ambassadors group of chamber volunteers. The board will also encourage more participation from chamber members in chamber activities. The board will mail a survey to members by March 31 asking for their involvement in the organization.

Board members thanked Jim Winbourn for his leadership of the chamber over the past two years and gave him a plaque. Members also thanked Winbourn for his tireless effort to decorate and light the town for Mountain Village Holiday. The board also recognized Carol Glassburn, Mike Dulay, Dee Seehorn and Doug Wells for service to the organization. Members thanked Glassburn for her tireless service as chairman of the Clean and Beautiful committee. The board will honor her in the spring with a special ceremony downtown at Ray's Pocket Park.

Chamber President/CEO Gioia Goodrum reported that the search for the Special Events Coordinator position at the chamber is underway and she hopes to have someone hired by early February. Goodrum also updated the board on several articles about Williams that have been published by travel writers that the chamber has played host to over the past year. Parade Magazine recently named Williams/Grand Canyon as one of the top 10 places to see. The European press has also published several articles. Goodrum also updated the board on special events planned for the community in 2014.

New board members Mike Besler of Colors of the West and Claire Kirby of the Sheridan House Inn join the board this year. Tim Snyder of Arizona Grand Canyon Tours will serve on the executive board and as treasurer in 2014.
