10/22/2013 10:04:00 AM Letter: Gardeners' Market enjoys diverse growing year
To the editor,
Wow! What a terrific growing year we local gardeners just enjoyed. So few late frosts and the deep monsoon rains provided conditions for our vegetable plots to thrive. And thank you to the birds for feeding almost all the grasshoppers to your children.
The yearly Williams Gardeners' Market was also a big success. We had our most Saturday, two hour markets ever - 10 of them. Eight local gardeners brought a wide variety of extras from their plantings! The favorite this year were the beets, cucumbers, swiss chard, Tom's peaches (oh, those juicy peaches!), goat milk soaps, and that giant puffball mushroom.
Our local visiting customers sure were fun! They were patient with our "No Early Birds" policy and full of jokes and recipe ideas. The neighborhood kids helped out and it's a pleasure to report they like vegetables. Thank you to all.
Already lists of seeds to order and plans for next year's garden layouts are bubbling in our thoughts. Plant an organic garden. Come join the fun.
