To the editor:
Is the National Park Service (NPS) system part of the problem? NPS is less than 1/13th of 1 percent of the federal budget. Our government is massive and probably is too big and needs massive tuning, but the NPS is not the problem and not the place to start. I am saddened by our government's reaction to the budget impasse to actually punish our citizens by locking all of our park treasures to make a point to have us push our Washington officials to come to an agreement.
I, as well as millions of others, have purchased high price passes to visit our national parks. The concessionaires within the parks pay high fees and percentage of sales, which should cover basic operation of them. If not the Park Service is also too big!
I understand we need to stand strong to begin to limit our government but to use closure of our natural national treasures as a small pawn to induce public outcry is a deplorable and unnecessary burden on society by its own government. Shame on you!
