To the editor:
How this parking issue could go as far as to have a downtown business owner intentionally try to disrupt a neighboring business owner by parking his "junky" looking commercial vehicle right in front of their neighbor's building is beyond me.
Unfortunately, this happened to Don Dent. Don has unselfishly given so much to this community over the years, whether it is by serving on the volunteer fire department, supporting and donating to countless organizations, helping the kids in numerous ways, and by repeatedly serving the thankless job as a city council member for more than 20 years.
A lot of the parking along both Route 66 and Railroad Avenue would be opened up to potential customers and increased revenue if the downtown business owners and employees would park off the main streets. It's really just common sense that seems to have eluded some of the business owners. Having more open parking spaces in front of your establishment is a definite draw to your business.
I repeatedly see business owners parking directly in front of their own establishments or their neighbors. How is it that they don't understand that leaving these spaces open for customers is in their own best interest.
Instead of being part of the problem, how about we all work on being part of the solution!
