Letter: Help Killcrow the dog get home to Williams

To the editor:

Williams is a colorful little town, as all who have lived here know. John Ira Collins and his trusted companion Killcrow added a little bit of color to our town.

John was friendly, loud and sometimes could try the patience of the people who tried to help him. He was rough around the edges but he had a big heart and was particularly patient with dogs.

I would never have gotten to know John if not for his dog, a large, red chow whose inscrutable expression and calm demeanor captured my dog lover's heart. I am a self-professed dog person who is magnetically drawn to any dog within eyeshot, so I became a friend of John and Killcrow.

The two of them were familiar figures in Williams, walking endless miles and photographed by tourists who would stop and admire the lion-like red chow dog and the wild looking mountain man who acted like a proud father with his son.

John got a roaming bug about five months ago and he and Killcrow moved to Idaho. John unfortunately passed away suddenly leaving his beloved Killcrow behind.

When friends became aware of the situation, the wheels starting moving quickly to move the dog back to Williams before he was euthanized.

Fast action was taken thanks to Tracy Cerami and Manytails. A trip to get Killcrow home is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2013. It's about an 11 hour trip and funds are needed for gas and for Killcrow's care.

We should all try to remember John for who he was and as all dog lovers would want to be remembered, as the perfect companion who loved and was loved unconditionally by their dog.

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself.

Please help us bring Killcrow home.

Britta and Bruni,

Manytails

Williams, Ariz.
