Letter: Grant helps pay for lifeguard at Williams Aquatic Center
Williams-Grand Canyon News

To the editor:

Friends of the Williams Aquatic Center (FWAC) has been awarded a grant of $1,450 from the Greater Williams Community Fund (GWCF). The money was requested in order to pay for an additional lifeguard at the Williams Aquatic Center this summer. FWAC is using $2000 of its money to supplement the new lifeguard's salary, and the city of Williams will cover any remaining costs.

Rose Newbold, city of Williams recreation director, has added two morning lap swim sessions (from 7 to 8:30 a.m.) and two evening water aerobics classes (from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.) to this year's schedule. This would not have been possible without the additional lifeguard.

FWAC appreciates all the community support, and especially those who have helped contribute to our fundraisers making this year's service project a reality. We hope everyone takes advantage of these extra sessions.

We appreciate the support and help from Rose Newbold and the city of Williams. Working together has made for another successful grant submission (our third)!

Special thanks go to the Greater Williams Community Fund for offering its grant workshop this year, for the opportunity to submit an application, and for awarding us such a generous grant.

Clare Hydock

Treasurer, Friends of the Williams Aquatic Center
