WILLIAMS - The Williams High School Lady Vikings Volleyball took on rival Sedona last week eventually losing in four close sets. The loss comes late in the season as the Vikes look ahead to the state finals.
Coach Jennifer Carter said the team played well, staying right with Sedona's effective offensive barrage, but just could not put enough points on the score board.
"The problem that we faced was all we did was play defense," Carter said. "Sedona was power all the way. That whole game they were hitting at us non-stop. We played really good defense. It's just that we could never capitalize on offense. Our hitters just weren't there. Our sets weren't there. Nothing ever came together for us offensively."
Although the Lady Vikes were unable to generate a consistent offensive attack Carter said Savannah Jackson served well throughout the game. She also singled out Katrina Plasencia and Erin McNelly for their consistent defensive play.
"They probably both got five or six blocks for the match and then on top of that they were always there touching the ball," she said.
Carter said the Lady Vikings hope to place in the top eight teams in the 2A division, assuring a high seed for the state finals. The finals will take place Nov. 6-7 with playoffs still yet to be scheduled.
