WILLIAMS - Crucial late season wins helped the Lady Vikings earn the last seed in the state playoffs. Unfortunately, the Lady Vikes couldn't muster another win to advance past the first round.

Head Coach Edgar Brown said despite the loss, the girls played at the top of their game.

"We went and put our best foot forward and the girls they played up to the best of their abilities," he said. "We got there and had a good time."

Brown went on to say errors played a major role in the loss to Miami.

"I honestly feel that it was probably nervousness," Brown said.

The Lady Vikes put base runners in scoring position in the top of the first inning but base running mistakes cost the girls any runs. Miami then scored one run in the bottom of the first.

Miami held the Lady Vikes scoreless in the top of the second inning before knocking in three runs in the second half of the inning to pull ahead 4-0.

Williams came back in the third inning scoring two runs.

"It was looking up," Brown said.

Miami continued to chip away at the Lady Vikes, scoring another run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Miami sealed the deal in the fifth inning, shutting down the Lady Vikings offense and then scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning making the score 9-2.

"Like as always, we had one of those innings that affected us down the road," Brown said. "That was our real bad inning right there."

The Lady Vikes went scoreless in the fifth inning.

"That was the girls trying to get that home run hit again," Brown said.

The Lady Vikes held Miami scoreless in the fifth and then scored one run in the sixth inning before Miami knocked in two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lady Vikes were able to score one more run in the seventh losing to Miami 11-4.

"I told the girls 'We came. We played. We had fun. That's what counts,'" Brown said. "We were there and a lot of teams can't say that. Those girls were out there trying their best and what more can a coach ask for?"

The spring sports banquet will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Williams High School.
