Large reward offered in Arizona deer poaching case
From Staff Report/WGCN

The Humane Society of the United States and the HSUS Wildlife Land Trust are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for illegally killing a mule deer near Williams.

According to a published media report, a large mule deer buck was shot and killed on the evening of June 13 or 14 along Forest Road 110 near Whitehorse Lake. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is asking for help from the public to track down the poachers.

"Poaching is not only callus and irresponsible, it's also a crime that all too often goes unpunished." said Kari Nienstedt, Arizona state director for the HSUS. "The Humane Society of the United States applauds Arizona Game and Fish for strongly enforcing anti-poaching laws."

According to the HSUS, every year thousands of poachers are arrested nationwide; however, it is estimated that only 1 to 5 percent of poachers are caught. Poachers kill wildlife anytime, anywhere and sometimes do so in particularly cruel manners.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Arizona Game and Fish Department's 24-hour Operation Game Thief hotline at 1-800-352-0700. The HSUS works to stop wildlife abuse across the country. Visit humanesociety.org/wildlifeabuse for more information.
