School board info session June 25
Williams-Grand Canyon News

WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Risha VanderWey's office will put on a local information session for those interested in running for school board in the Nov. 4 general election. The session is intended to inform interested citizens how to run and what they can expect.

The meeting will take place at noon on June 25 in the Williams High School Annex, 636 S. Seventh St. It is expected to last about one hour.

The Williams Unified School District Governing Board (WUSD) has two seats expiring as of Dec. 31. Albert "Bud" Parenteau holds one and Alyssa Dennison holds the other as an appointee. The seats are four-year terms.

Any registered voter in the state of Arizona who has been a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the Nov. 4 election day is eligible to run for these positions. A candidate or their spouse can not be district employees.

Those interested in running can pick up a nomination packet at the County Superintendent's Office, 2384 N. Steves Blvd. in Flagstaff. A minimum of 14 signatures must appear on a candidate's petition forms. Candidates must file the petition forms and nomination papers with the Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Office between July 7 and Aug. 6 at 5 p.m.

Besides the WUSD seats, the Coconino Community College District Governing Board also has three seats up for election this fall, which the information session will address. The seat in District 3, which encompasses Williams, has a two-year seat up for election. Candidates must collect a minimum of 36 signatures to run for this position. Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce President Gioia Goodrum filled the District 3 seat in December 2013 as an appointee.

More information about running for these positions is available at (928) 679-8070 or cgarrison@coconino.az.gov.
