WILLIAMS, Ariz. — The Easter Bunny was spotted around town last week handing out candy and spreading the word about Williams’ Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday.

The annual event features an egg hunt, games, prizes, food, and of course an appearance by the Easter Bunny. It takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Williams Rec Center, 300 W. Railroad Ave.

This is the sixth year Williams has put on the Eggstravaganza. Last year about 500 people attended, and organizer and Williams Food Bank Director Guy Mikkelsen hopes for a similar turnout for this year’s event.

Organizers have stuffed about 3,000 eggs for the Eggstravaganza. The older kids will hunt for eggs in the skate park area of the Rec Center.

“We’ll cover the ground in plastic eggs with candy and things in them and then cover it in balloons so the kids have to kick through all of the balloons to find the eggs,” Mikkelsen said. “And then they get to pop all of the balloons, which is actually a big fun part of it.”

The younger children will participate in the bunny trail.

“They’ll go one at a time down the bunny trail finding the eggs for them and then get to see the Easter Bunny at the end and take a picture and then pick their toy,” Mikkelsen said.

St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance and Walgreens donated the majority of the toys, candy and Easter baskets for this year’s event.

Besides the egg hunts, the Eggstravaganza will include more raffle prizes this year. Kids will have a chance to win one of four bikes, as well as a smaller big wheel tricycle for the younger kids.

This year’s lunch menu will feature pulled chicken barbecue sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, chips and drinks.

After lunch kids can participate in games and activities, such as dodge ball, candy bar plinko, face painting and crafts.

“I would encourage all the families to come out and bring their kids,” Mikkelsen said. “It’s a completely free event—the food and the toys and everything is free.”

The Easter Bunny added: “Hop over to the egg hunt. It’s what hoppening.”

Organizers are still looking for volunteers for the event. More information about the Eggstravaganza or volunteering is available at (928) 635-1496.

I feel offended at the mention of the easter bunny. I do not believe in him.
