WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Robert Kelty appointed Alyssa Dennison as the new Williams Unified School District (WUSD) Governing Board member.

Dennison fills the seat left by former Board President Kristi Fredrickson, who resigned at the end of November to take a job with Northern Arizona University's Arizona K12 Center.

Kelty will swear in Dennison before the first board meeting in January. She will serve on the board until Dec. 31, 2014.

Kelty and WUSD Governing Board President David Nenne interviewed two candidates for the governing board seat a few weeks ago. Nenne said he was impressed with Dennison's responses during the interview.

"She was just extremely intelligent with her answers," he said. "Everything she had to say was well thought out."

Nenne added that Dennison showed a great deal of maturity.

"I'm excited to begin working with her and I think she will be a great addition to the Williams School Board," he said.

Governing Board Member Bud Parenteau said he has known Dennison since she was a child.

"I think it's an excellent idea that we have some young blood in there," he said. "I think she'll bring a new perspective."

Parenteau added that having another female perspective on the board will be beneficial.

"I think she'll do an excellent job," he said.
