Editorial: Retailers 'Draw the Line' on underage drinking

Seven Williams retailers recently received a visit from underage students as part of a Covert Undercover Buyer Sting. The underage students attempted to purchase alcohol at each business establishment. The good news is that none of the retailers sold alcohol to the underage youth.

The Williams Alliance Executive Council and staff along with the Williams Chapter of the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) will visit each of the retailers later this month to present them with a certificate for their support in Drawing the Line on Underage Drinking. According to the 2006 Arizona Youth Survey, kids are trying alcohol for the first time and drinking on a regular basis at approximately age 14. Underage alcohol consumption is the number one substance problem facing Arizona youth. It is crucial that parents and adults influence youth in a positive way. Learn more at drawyourline.com.

Hats off to the seven retailers that did not sell alcohol to underage youth during the recent sting - Circle K, Clover Hill Shell, Safeway, Sandoval's Conoco, Sandoval's Mobil, Sportway Supplies and Whistle Stop. We applaud you for doing your part to keep our youth alcohol-free.
