WILLIAMS - The Williams High School Vikings ended their season last week with an 8-3 record after a frustrating 66-14 loss to Valley Christian.
Head coach Jeff Brownlee said the Vikings had a good week of practice and felt strong going into the game.
"Our kids were elated to be in the State playoffs," he said. "Playing in 2A coming from 1A, they were very excited about it. One of our biggest goals this year was to make the playoffs. We ended up as the 10th seed, which was a good thing."
Valley Christian dominated quickly, scoring 21 points in the first quarter. The Vikings were able to score a touchdown on a two-yard run by Darius Brown, which was set up by a series of passing plays.
"At the end of the first quarter its 8-21 and I can see in the kids' eyes that they are starting to believe like maybe we can do this," Brownlee said.
At the end of the first half the score was 35-8. The Vikes started the third quarter with a touchdown on an 87-yard touchdown pass to Guy Forbis during the opening possession. The Vikes were unable to put any more points on the board for the remainder of the game.
"We just played a team that was bigger and faster than we were. It's hard to believe I tell people we actually played well even though the score got out of hand. But we did play well. We had some really good things happen on offense. We were able to move the ball against this team."
Darius Brown was 8 for 16 passing for a total of 179 yards.
Brownlee said the coaching staff plans to develop an off-season conditioning program that will include work in the weight room as well as extensive cardio workouts.
