The Williams High School Vikings football squad stopped the Camp Verde Cowboys in their tracks with a 48-0 win Sept. 20 at home.

Aidan Grantham threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Kohl Nixon to put the Vikings on the scoreboard early in the first quarter.

"It's nice to see our passing game come around," coach Jeff Brownlee said. "We need a balanced offense and we have got to have something in our passing game."

Grantham went 7 for 7 for 123 yards and two touchdown passes to Nixon. Grantham connected with Coty Baxter and Christian Holmes throughout the game as well.

Brownlee said the Vikes running game also looked good. The Vikes ran for 342 yards.

"Those are the numbers we need to have to be very competitive," Brownlee said.

Camp Verde is a longstanding Williams rival. Brownlee said his team went into the game focused on a win.

"They just played hard nosed football and took control from the first snap," Brownlee said. "We controlled it all the way to the end."

The Vikings are 3-1 this season and 1-0 in conference play.

"It's a solid win and it shows the rest of our conference that we're here to play football," Brownlee said.
