Be prepared for winter driving conditions on the forest
Staff Report/WGCN

WILLIAMS - Kaibab National Forest officials remind the public that winter driving conditions exist on the forest. Northern Arizona has recently received approximately two feet of snow in many areas. If you are planning to travel to the Kaibab National Forest to enjoy some winter recreation or cut your Christmas tree, please remember the following information -

• Forest roads are not plowed.

• Plan your trip. Check the weather before heading out, and be prepared for changing weather conditions and possible road closures.

• Bring warm clothes, water, food, and emergency equipment such as tire chains, flashlight, shovel, and rope.

• Make sure you have a full tank of gas.

• Cell phone coverage is not reliable in many areas of the forest.

• The use of over-the-snow vehicles and/or snowshoes may be necessary to cut a tree.

• Let somebody know where you are going and when you plan to be back.

Before traveling to your destination on the forest, call the nearest Forest Service office for current conditions and information. Please remember to stay safe, have fun, and use caution while traveling on the forest.
