WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Attendees will be blown away by the third annual Kite Festival April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cureton Park.

The event will feature free food, games, arts and crafts, a bounce house and music from Bill Bixby and special guests. The first 100 children at the event will receive free kites.

The Christ Church of Flagstaff Williams neighborhood group is putting on the non faith-based event.

"The idea came up about three years ago as just wanting to have an opportunity to provide something unique to the community with no strings attached, except to the kites," said event coordinator Rob Krombeen.

Former Williams mayor Calder Chapman first brought up the idea of having a kite festival about 18 years ago, but the event never happened, Krombeen said. Now Krombeen is pleased to offer the event, which had about 300 people attend in the past.

"It's just a great opportunity to come out and meet people in the community that you might not have otherwise met, and just a fun filled day that's free and family friendly," Krombeen said.

Depending on weather conditions, attendees may also see the largest kite that anyone has ever flown in Williams. Krombeen has flown the 27-foot kite at previous Kite Festivals.

"I had to be tied to a fence with a mountaineering rope," he said.

More information is available from Krombeen at (928) 635-4456.
